Why Use OSP to Check Your Child's Development?

OSP offers two questionnaires: the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2

Parents can learn about their child’s strengths and any areas that may need support at important times in their child’s early development. The results help parents, together with providers, take meaningful next steps for continued learning and follow a child’s development. Use the OSP site to check development about 1 to 2 times a year or whenever there are concerns about a child’s development.

About ASQ

The Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ®-3) is a survey of what a child can do at a given time, a snapshot of a child’s development. ASQ is a system of 20 individual questionnaires, one for each small age range of development from 2 months to 72 months. Each questionnaire asks about milestones within that age range.

Questions on the ASQ describe activities parents can see infants and young children do in play and daily routines. There are no wrong answers. Many items ask about skills a child has already learned, and there may be things a child is doing at home, in childcare, or in other settings. Parents can take time to observe or give a child the opportunity to try a skill or activity if needed.

About ASQ:SE

The Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ®:SE-2) is a survey of a child’s self-help and social communication skills at a point in time. It provides a snapshot to help parents learn more about what is expected at an age and to help discuss concerns with caregivers/teachers, if needed.

ASQ:SE is usually very quick for parents to complete. There are no activities to try; there are no “wrong” answers. Parents answer based on their experiences with their child.
